I had gastric bypass performed in 2005 and it was great for the first 6 years or so and then the weight started to creep back. I had been considering the lap band over bypass for a couple years but in Canada it is so expensive (and not covered by insurance), I found it hard to justify. I had heard of people going to Mexico for the surgery because it was more affordable but I wasn't sure at first. I did a lot of research and decided to go for it after a month or so of deliberating.

Needless to say I was incredibly nervous as I got on the plane by myself but everything went better than I could have expected. The whole process was very easy and smooth. Shuttles to and from the airport were quick and seamless, the hotel and hospital staff were very nice and accommodating and the hotel rooms were very nice and clean. (much nicer than I was expecting actually)

As expected, the hospital facilities are clean and nice but less modern and technologically advanced as someone from Canada is used to. With that said, they were very efficient and made the whole process quick and smooth from check in to check out.

The surgery itself has been very successful, I had my second fill 2 weeks ago and I believe I'm now at my sweet spot. I've lost 31 lbs in 3 months so I couldn't be happier with the results. Compared to the bypass surgery, lap band I had far less complications and recovery time which was great. I flew down on Thursday, surgery Friday and was back at work on Monday.

Overall I would highly recommend the lap band surgery with Dr. Almanza.
