I was so nervous! But I had to do something! At 400 pounds, I had no good quality of life. I couldn't even fit in a booth at a restaurant. I had to use a seat belt extender on airplanes and even in my car!
I had my surgery on 8/30/2021 with only 17 days prep time. I did two weeks of high protein and low carbs and then 3 wretched days of liquid diet. Then I was off to the races!
Traveling to Tijuana was an experience but relatively painless.
I had that lap band before so I sort of knew what to expect. The surgeon removed my lap band and gall bladder and took 80% of my stomach. Recovery wasn't too bad.
I was very week the first month. I even had to use a shower chair to take a shower at first. Eating was a chore because I was used to drinking while I eat and you aren't supposed to do that. I couldn't tell at first if I was hungry and could only tell if I was full if my nose started running. By then, it was too late. Heartburn was a real struggle.
But slowly the weight started coming off and my energy level went up. I learned what was okay to eat and what wasn't.
I still struggle sometimes with cravings of savory things (for some reason, I never crave anything sweet anymore). Where before the surgery I had to have only breakfast foods for breakfast, I can now eat any sort of thing for breakfast. I grossed people out when I had black-eyed peas for breakfast one morning!
I am so thankful for this tool. Dr. Almanza took great care of me and so did his staff. I would recommend him most definitely!
