I had a lap band done in 2006, lost 132 pounds and kept it off until January 2011. At that point the band had slipped and I had to have it removed. I thought I could keep the weight off as I had learned how to eat in a healthy manner. Wrong! Over the next 20 months I gained back 60 pounds.
At that point my insurance would not cover bariatric surgery and the cost here in the states was prohibitive. Then a friend suggested I check on having the surgery done in Mexico. I went on line and discovered Jerusalem Hospital. I contacted them and started making arrangements. Everyone was so helpful answering questions and just staying in touch with me.
Two weeks before Christmas my husband and I were picked up at the airport in San Diego and taken to the hospital in Tijuana. By the end of the day on Tuesday I had had my surgery and made new friends. After a night in the hospital I was taken to join my husband in a lovely local hotel. Jerusalem Hospital has a nurse on duty at the hotel to help with any problems or just keep us supplied with popsicles.
The patients continued to receive IVs on Wednesday, had xrays taken on Thursday and I was back in San Diego that afternoon.
The entire staff does everything possible to keep the patients, and whomever accompanies them, well informed and comfortable. I would recommend Jerusalem Hospital to anyone who requires bariatric surgery.
