My daughter Phara who is 14-years old gained most of her weight over the last 3-years. She was teased and bullied at school and as a result, she suffered from severe depression and anxiety. She was hospitalized for suicidal tendencies and it seemed the more we tried to do for her the worse she became. She was withdrawn, barely smiled or spoke to anyone and became a recluse in her room.
She often said she hated herself and the way she looked. She hated being in public and most of all hated going to school. When home (online) school didn't work for her we had little choice and had to place her back in public school. She continued with weekly counseling and daily medications for her depression with no light at the end of the tunnel.
Phara asked me several times about having weight loss surgery. She saw what it did for me and wanted the same for herself. I wanted this for her too but all of the doctors I consulted with in the United States refused to even consider the surgery for her. They stated although she weighed more than 240 pounds, she was not eligible to have gastric surgery due to her age.
One night Phara sat with me and cried. She said she didn't want to live this way anymore. She said she hated herself and couldn't stand to live so miserably. At that point I grabbed the laptop and she and I began searching online for a surgeon that would operate on a 14-year old.

I was met at the San Diego airport by a shuttle driver who drove Phara and I over the border and directly to the hospital for testing the evening before her surgery. He then drove us to the hotel which to my disbelief was absolutely like every picture seen online.
The staff and nurses at the hospital were amazing to deal with and Dr. Hernandez who performed the surgery on my daughter was modest, professional and so caring. The staff and nurses at the hotel were simply fantastic. Even the staff in the restaurant was so pleasant and friendly, everyone treated us like we were their family. It still boggles my mind at how efficiently and smoothly this service operates. They have thought of everything from before, during and aftercare.
I am thrilled to say Phara's surgery went so well. She was up and walking within hours of having the surgery and while she chose not to have pain medication, it was available to her at every step of the way to ensure her comfort.
While we have been home for only 2-days since Phara's surgery, I felt I had to write this to let others know there really is help out there from people who have nothing but understanding, empathy and genuine concern to help those of us who suffer with weight issues.
I end this letter with tears of relief and joy, with a new found hope for my daughter that she will be happy and healthy going forward and with an infinite amount of THANKS to all at Weight Loss Agents for doing what you do. There really are no words adequate enough to convey my sincere gratitude to you all.
