Post Surgery Review as of 11-26-13
I would like to take this opportunity to assess my progress since the gastric sleeve surgery that I completed on 08-12-13.
First of all…
Thank you! This surgery has changed my life.
The benefits of my surgery:
1) Pre-surgery I had a very high fasting blood glucose level (that I thought I had kept under control via diet and exercise). My blood glucose levels on the day of the surgery (and I had not eaten anything on this day was 178.) It should be between 70 – 100, so I definitely was still considered to have type 2 diabetes. I went to my doctor on 09-11-13 and my fasting blood sugar had gone from 178 the month before to 105. I went 2 weeks after that and it had dropped to 75. Finally in the healthy range. Success!
2) My hypertension was due to poor diet and stress has since been normalized my blood pressure is in the very healthy range now 120 over 78… something like that. So blood pressure has been kept under control without any medication.
3) My sleep apnea was moderate before the surgery and I would wake up thirsty during the night. While I still snore I believe that my sleep apnea has been severely curtailed since the surgery.
4) Finally my weight. The day of my surgery I weighed in at 235 lbs and now I am currently at 169 lbs. My current fat % is approximately 11 to 12% which is not phenomenal, but not bad either. My waist has gone from a size 38 to a loose fitting size 32.
So you might be asking how did I obtain these results after my surgery?

I did the following:
1) I focused on my diet & supplementation. I drink plenty of water (high PH 9.5) and eat plenty of alkaline foods (via raw juices). I have substituted sugar for monk fruit, Lo Han, Xylitol, or stevia, and I avoid sucralose (as much as possible because it wreaks havoc on your probiotic levels), no aspartame, no saccharine, no artificial sweeteners. I do use agave nectar & honey in small quantities and only on a rare occasion. I also enjoy eating 2 Quest bars a day, taking my multivitamins, my fish oil supplementation, & HGH oral spray. My primary focuses when it comes to diet are: protein, alkaline foods, high PH water, low sugar, fish oil supplements, multivitamins, fiber (great fiber gummies – sugar free), prebiotics, and probiotics.
2) I get between 6.5 to 8 hours of sleep per evening… sometimes a little more on the weekends.
3) Recently in the last 2 weeks I have focused on intermittent fasting… no food after 8 PM, or before 10 AM (I am trying to push my feeding window from 12 noon to 8 PM.) I eat 4 small (3.5 to 4 ounce) meals a day.
The good news is that I feel great. I look great, I sleep great, I work out hard, and have a general happiness and sense of well-being.
The bad news is that I have to buy a whole new wardrobe because everything I have is too big for me, lol. I used to wear a size XL or XXL shirt, and now I feel comfortable in a small size shirt. My pants have gone from a size 38 to a size 32 (loose fitting).
I highly recommend the gastric sleeve surgery with the implementation of dietary lifestyle changes & the addition of cardio and resistance training for transforming your body and your life.
Wishing you all the best health & happiness,
Javier Ruiz
