I decided to have the gastric sleeve after almost 4 years of researching. I have no regrets on getting it done but I am one month post-op and I will say it has been an adjustment to the "new normal" with eating and drinking fluids. Healing has not been real easy for me but thankfully no infections from my wounds or anything of that nature. There are some positives and negatives that I could say with going to Tijuana. First off I am thankful for Dr. Almanza and his team for providing this service at a low cost compared to what you would pay in the United States. From my experience I will say the nurses at the hotel were far better than the nurses at the hospital. At the hospital you do not have a nurse call button in your room and they could not hear you call them so you have to get up if you need something or have a question. They also would not check up enough on you and your IV fluids run out. They just had a lot of patients so I tried to understand. I was cold in the hospital probably from the anesthesia wearing off but was told I could not have another blanket or even another pillow to help me get comfortable to try and sleep! I had to share one bathroom with five other patients all of which were women but I thought that was hard and unsanitary. So I was thankful you only have one night at hospital then you could go to hotel. Once I was at hotel it was much better care and I felt way more comfortable. The nursing staff gave you one on one attention and could speak better English. I could write so much more but I will close by saying overall I am so grateful for having this surgery and for the weight loss agents, staff, and Dr. Almanza for providing this service.
