I struggled for more than 20 years with my weight. I had reached a point where it hurt to much to exercise because I was to heavy and it hurt my knees and feet yet without the extra workout I struggled keeping the weight off. I know one of my biggest issues was how much food I would eat at meal times. I didn't eat really unhealthy I just ate to much.

I had a friend who had gotten this same procedure done and then my brother in law did it as well. After speaking with them and seeing their results another friend and I decided to go ahead and get the surgery done. I have struggled with high blood pressure ranging about 150 / 100 and cholesterol in the upper 200 range.

The people that helped us were very friendly and knowledgeable. The motel and staff there was great and the hospital was very modern and clean. Dr. Almanza was awesome and definitely knows his stuff. It was surprising that he had also had the same procedure done quite some time ago.

I have to say that that I was still a little unprepared for what was coming. You have to mentally prepare yourself for the life change that will occur. The surgery was easy and simple but the recovery kicked my butt. I didn't understand what a pain it would be to get rid of the gas that is inside due to the surgery and all I can say is WALK around a lot even if you really don't want to. DO NOT eat hardly anything but liquids for at least five days before. The longer you can go the better and then follow the schedule afterwords as best you can it will really help on making sure everything heals right with no complications. Get used to the idea and mid set that if you are able to eat the amount of food that you can fit in one hand, you will be FULL so make sure that what you eat first is the healthy part. Don't push it. I also found that very small snacks throughout the day helps. Just make them healthy.

I have lost 80 lbs and have leveled off now. I have not lost or gained anymore for over a month, I eat pretty much everything I did before the surgery but just in small portions. I have saved money on food and as long as you like the same food as your partner it's fun to go out and buy one meal and share. My health has improved immensely, I have been able to go hiking more and run. My knees and feet don't hurt anymore. I just had a physical at the doctor's office and my blood pressure is now 119 / 74 and my cholesterol was at 235. All of this was accomplished in six months.

I am excited to see what the future entails. Thanks Dr. Almanza.
