One day my husband called me with the idea for this surgery. He has illnesses that would be helped by losing weight but I was just overweight (actually obese according to my BMI). My first thought was "I don't need this, I'll can just lose 50 pounds on my own while he is losing from his surgery". Then I thought "Who am I kidding, I can't even lose 10 pounds without putting twice that much back on within months". So I decided to do it. Off we went to Tijuana. Everything went exactly how they promised - no surprises. Because my husband has heart conditions they wanted him to have a stress test release from his local doctor. We did not get that before we left so he needed to do it while we were there. We didn't quite understand the procedure so we declined to have it done there and they declined his surgery at that time (which impressed us that they were so cautious). However, I went ahead and had the surgery. I didn't have as much weight to lose as some of the patients there but 50lbs can be as difficult as 150lbs to lose. It's been 3 months and I have lost 30 lbs- 20 more to go to my goal. It was safe, clean, efficient - no problems. Now that my husband has his cardiac clearance he is having his surgery next week. Two pieces of advice: if you need a cardiac clearance either get it before you leave or arrange to get it there (it will be much cheaper)and GET YOUR PASSPORT. Going back through customs will be much quicker if you have one. We got all the usual flack: Tijuana is dirty, you're gonna get robbed or killed, they're going to steal your organs, the testimonials are fake, etc, etc. I'm a real person who really did this.
